About the event

The Mayfly course is highly interactive with a range of person-centred, evidence-based content and learner-centred activities. An independent evaluation of the Mayfly course has been conducted and published by an academic research team at Edge Hill University. Patient stories stimulate group discussion and application of theory to practice. Group activities are based on learner’s personal reflection and the patient videos convey why personalised care, support planning, shared decision making and enabling choice are important particular for those who are nearing the end of their lives or have life-limiting conditions Teaching and learning approaches are tailored to individual groups to ensure that content and interactive activities are relevant and meaningful Core elements of the course focus on:

Recognising the value and importance of personalised care and support planning

Core communication and relationship building skills through person-centred conversations

Compassionate and sensitive application of a range of interpersonal skills, appropriate to the situation and needs of the person

Ability to engage with people through therapeutic interactions even when conversations feel difficult

Ability to record and share a personalised plan

Knowledge of legal frameworks and their application to, and implications for, personalised care planning

The course is divided into 4 sections: Think About It, Talk About It, Record It and Share It
