Venepuncture - New to Phlebotomy 


By the end of this session, the student will have developed the knowledge and skills required to carry out venepuncture safely and professionally. They will be able to discuss the professional issues involved, including competence, valid informed consent, patient assessment, and infection control. Students will learn to identify the veins in the forearm that are most suitable for venepuncture, and to describe the factors that should be considered when selecting a vein. They will also be able to explain the possible contraindications and risks associated with the procedure.


In addition, students will be able to identify, assemble, and correctly use the equipment required for venepuncture. They will understand the steps necessary to maintain safety and ensure the patient’s needs are met before, during, and after the procedure.
