About the event
The Cancer in the Community course is designed for Registered Nurses and AHP’s working in community settings.
It aims to develop clinicians’ knowledge of cancer prevention, screening, early diagnosis, treatment and treatment toxicities, as well as providing an understanding of the needs of people living with cancer as a long-term condition. The evaluation from previous cohorts across London which demonstrates tangible improvements in confidence to care for people living with and after cancer and has positive feedback from delegates.
This course will be facilitated by CLCH in collaboration with Transforming Cancer Services Team for London (TCST).
All sessions must be attended, please do not sign up for this course programme if you are not able to commit to every session.
Session one Monday 6th Jan 09.00- 12.30: Screening, cancer screening programmes including targeted lung health checks, health inequalities and promoting screening in marginalised groups.
Session Two : Wednesday 8th Jan 13.00- 16.30 Early diagnosis; common cancer red flags, referral pathways, what is your role in cancer early diagnosis?
Session three Monday 13th Jan 09.00- 12.30 : Focus on current cancer treatments including systemic anticancer therapies, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone treatments, side effects and toxicities.
Session Four Weds 15th Jan 13.00-16.30 : Oncological emergencies, what do you need to know?
Session Five Mon 20th Jan 09.00-12.30: personalised cancer care overview, including cancer care review best practice
Social prescribing and link workers
Session Six Weds 22nd Jan 13.00-16.30 : Late effects of cancer – e.g. lymphoedema. Case based learning – prostate cancer and consequences of treatment. Evaluation of programme and next steps.
