Pharmacy First Lunch & Learn

Launch of NHS Pharmacy First advanced service On 31 January 2024, the NHS Pharmacy First advanced service launched, enabling community pharmacists to complete episodes of care for patients for seven common conditions, without the need for the patient to visit their general practice. The service builds on the previous Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS) by enabling community pharmacies to manage patients for seven common conditions, following specific clinical pathways.

FAQs about the service and clinical pathway explainer videos can be accessed via Community Pharmacy England. More information for community pharmacy, general practice and ICBs is available in this letter published on 31 January 2024.

GP Practice EMIS local services

  • Use of EMIS local services with  a drop-down menu for the 7 conditions should be live by end of Feb 2024.
  • Pharmacies should be able to update GP records by structured messaging through GP Connect update record > pilot screenshots https://www.emisnow.com/csm?id=kb_article&sysparm_article=KB5001632
  • The service can be a part of ‘Total Triage’ for an option for a patient to be referred to Community Pharmacy
