About the event
Training session for Administrative staff, HCAs, Social Prescribers, and Practice Nurses given
by a qualified trainer and co-delivered by a trainer with learning disabilities and/or autism.
This training for surgeries will raise the awareness of learning disabilities and autism and
recommend reasonable adjustments other than communication that will help increase the uptake of
health checks and improve patient outcomes.
Training will consist of:
PART ONE
· Online (individual access): 1 hour
o Brief history of LD in a health context
o What is and what isn’t a LD
o Typical type and causes of LD
o ASD overview
o Testing and diagnosis
o Legislation and reports
o What is in the annual health check
o Screening
o Read codes
o Diagnostic overshadowing
o Most typical conditions
PART TWO
· In-person (on TEAMS): 1.5 hour
o Barriers to accessing health care and reasonable adjustments
o Communication needs and methods
o Environmental needs – particularly for patients with ASD
o Top tips for pre, during and post appointments
